Meet the Deputy Governor

Alhaji Ali Olanusi, Deputy of Ondo State

The Asiwaju of Supareland was born on February 28, 1942 to the family of Late High Chief Bello Olanusi and Late Madam Aminat Olanusi of Supare, Akoko. His father, High Chief Bello Olanusi was of the Atosin

ruling house of Egure Quarters, Supare-Akoko and his mother Aminat Arebisola from Oderu ruling house in Oke-Ogboon quarters, Supare-Akoko.

The young Ali Olanusi was enrolled at St. James Primary School where he obtained his Primary School Leaving Certificate in 1957.

Knowing the value of education from a tender age, he proceeded to the Salvation Army Secondary Modern School also at Supare. He later proceeded to Ansar-Udeen High School, Ikole-Ekiti to complete his Secondary School Education, a task he completed in 1965.

He began his working career in 1965 with a brief stint at the Federal Ministry of Transport, Lagos. The young Ali Olanusi made up his mind early in life to build a thriving and successful Business Empire, with the incorporation of his first company, Agbogbo Trading Company. It is a merchandising outfit that later grew to become a Limited Liability Company, Agbogbo Limited, through which Alhaji Ali Olanusi first came into limelight as a successful businessman.

Haven’t given full expression to his entrepreneurial spirit and drive, and in his desire to impact the more on the life of his fellow men, he saw politics as a suitable platform through which this could be achieved. He began his voyage into politics through the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria in 1979. As Chairman of Constituency I, Akoko South Local Government (now Akoko South East/Akoko South West).

Since a star can not be hidden, it was not long before Alhaji Ali Olanusi took another step in his political career when he was elected to represent his people in the House of Representatives in 1992 on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) while in the House, he served as the House Committee Chairman of Federal Commissions and Councils. The military struck again and terminated that political dispensation on November 17, 1993. This left Alhaji Ali Olanusi with no choice but to return to his business until the year 1998 when on the formation of the PDP he registered as an active member. In March, 2001 he was elected State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, a position he held with distinction until he left the party voluntarily in November, 2006.

It is a mark of astute and grass-root managerial capacity that the PDP that lost the Gubernatorial election in 1999 elections in Ondo State emerged the ruling Party in the 2003 elections, under the able leadership of Alhaji Ali Olanusi. That, is winning magic was re-enacted in the 2007 Elections when he left the PDP to team up with Dr. Olusegun Mimiko on the ticket of the Labour Party. He was sworn in as the Deputy Governor of Ondo State on February 24, 2009 for a-four year term.

Alhaji Ali Olanusi in his illustrious career has held other positions which include,

1. Chairman, Nigerian Shippers Council – 2005-2006

2. Chairman, Supare Development Association (National Council) 1995 – 2001.

3. Chairman, Board of Governors, Agbogbo Grammar School, Supare –  1979-1986
